Biography
Roy Campanella owned a liquor store in Harlem, which he operated during the off-season. On January 28, 1958, after closing the store for the night, his car hit a patch of ice, skidded into a telephone pole and overturned. Campanella suffered a serious spinal cord injury which left him partially paralyzed for the rest of his life.
